Think about the Roman Empire every day? Stiger's Tigers is for you
Ever wondered what it would be like to be part of a Roman legion? Then this is the book for you!
Even if you haven't, you might enjoy it as I did! ST made for a fast-paced, enjoyable read. In some ways, it felt like an empire-building sim game, but focused on a single legion.
We follow the eminently competent and mysterious Captain Stiger as he takes on a ragtag group of men and train them into the finest legionnaires in their area of the world.
To see the progress earned step by step and how Stiger and his elf ranger friend Eli navigate each fresh challenge was immensely satisfying.
And then magic is introduced! Considering we have an elf at the start of the book, it wasn't entirely a surprise, but it was certainly intriguing.
Even by the end of the book, while it wraps up at a satisfying place, it's plain there's plenty more to be discovered in this world.
It wasn't a character-focused story like I prefer, though Stiger wasn't flat and had plenty of interesting backstory to him. Additionally, the climax wasn't exactly satisfactory for me.
But overall, ST is an original, fun fantasy book that has several elements I've never read before. I'd recommend it if you're in the mood for something not too heavy and that'll take you somewhere new!
